About Debi Huckaby
Debi Huckaby | Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC017198) | Anxiety, Trauma, Relationship & Life Transition Counseling in Athens, GA
Starting therapy can feel overwhelming—especially if you're used to handling things on your own or you're not quite sure what needs to change. You may appear capable and successful on the outside while privately feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that no longer make sense.
Debi Huckaby is an Associate Licensed Professional Counselor (APC) in Georgia and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) who provides counseling for adults, couples, and college students experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, substance use, career uncertainty, and significant life transitions. She is especially passionate about helping people who want more than temporary coping strategies—those who are ready to understand what is beneath the surface, reconnect with their strengths, and find the courage to make meaningful changes.
Debi offers a warm, relational, and trauma-informed approach to counseling. She meets clients where they are, helping them explore the experiences and beliefs shaping their current patterns while supporting them in moving toward greater clarity, connection, and purpose. Her work is person-centered and strengths-based, recognizing the connection between emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual well-being.
Debi is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a trauma-focused therapy that helps individuals process distressing experiences and reduce the emotional impact of painful memories. She has also completed the Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Externship, an evidence-based model that helps couples strengthen emotional connection, improve communication, and repair relationship distress. Debi is a Certified Enneagram Coach and may incorporate the Enneagram to support greater self-awareness and personal growth when appropriate. She is also a certified SYMBIS Facilitator, providing premarital and relationship counseling for couples preparing for marriage or seeking to strengthen their relationship.
Debi commonly works with clients experiencing:
Anxiety, stress, and overwhelm
Depression and emotional exhaustion
Trauma and difficult past experiences
Relationship challenges and communication difficulties
Career transitions, identity shifts, and questions of purpose
Substance use and the impact of addiction on individuals and families
Premarital counseling and major life transitions
Debi believes meaningful change begins with curiosity, compassion, and the possibility that life can feel different. She strives to create a safe, supportive space where clients can better understand themselves, heal underlying wounds, and move toward a life that feels more grounded, connected, and authentic.
Debi earned her bachelor's degree from Georgia Southern University and her master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University.
She provides in-person counseling in Athens, Georgia, and telehealth counseling for clients throughout the state of Georgia.
